Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), in collaboration with International Business Machines (IBM), is establishing a UBD | IBM Centre on Regional Climate-Weather Modelling and Impacts on Rainforests, Renewable Energy, Crops & Flooding at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). The Centre will focus on collaborative research on these cutting-edge Smarter Planet modelling topics using high performance computing facilities to be installed at UBD. The partnership will include new personnel hires at UBD and deep collaboration with IBM Research Labs at India, NY/USA (Watson) and Brazil.
Recognized internationally, UBD is located within the Heart of Borneo, home of one of the primary rainforest ecosystems in Asia. It has a vibrant socio-cultural environment conducive to achieving excellence in teaching, learning, research, scholarship, public service and professional practices. Today, the University accommodates more than 300 academic staff and 2,800 students in seven faculty areas: arts and social sciences, business, economics and policy studies, Islamic studies, science, education, and medicine. It offers rigorous academic training at the graduate level, with research opportunities leading to internationally accredited degrees. UBD and IBM invite suitably qualified candidates to join us and contribute to the UBD | IBM Centre. The appointment will be by contract for a period of three years which is renewable subject to mutual agreement.1. DIRECTOR
The Director of this Centre will be responsible for driving this exciting research collaboration between UBD and IBM, in the context of a larger transformation of UBD into a Research University. The partnership will include personnel investments on UBD and deep collaboration with IBM Research labs at India, NY/USA (Watson) and Brazil.
Individuals applying should have about fifteen years of experience in academia or industry (or a mix), with at least five years of leadership experience in managing significant research and development activities. Backgrounds in one of the relevant disciplines of the centre – climate or weather modelling, hydrological modelling, forest resources, renewable energy, agriculture or high performance computing – would be desired but not a requirement.
